Glasses will become filthy, just like any other object you use on a regular basis. It may be difficult to see through lenses that have smudges on them.
Fortunately, maintaining the clarity of your lenses and the aesthetic appeal of your frames is possible with regular cleaning. To clean your glasses without breaking them, follow these tips.
Glasses cleaning is a simple and fast process. All you need is hand soap, dishwashing liquid (sans lotion), lint-free towels or cloths, and a sink.
Wash and dry your hands
Make sure your hands are clean before beginning to clean your glasses. You do not want to give your glasses any grease or grime from your hands.
Use a lint-free towel to dry your hands after washing them with soap (avoid using lotions or additives as they might smear).
Use lukewarm water to rinse your glasses under the faucet
Hold your glasses under the faucet, thoroughly rinse them, and make sure the lenses are clean.
Dust and filth are best removed with warm water; however, be careful not to use too much heat as this might harm any special coatings on your lenses.
After applying a drop of dishwashing liquid without lotion to each lens, massage the soap all over the lenses and frame
To clean your glasses, just use one drop of dishwashing liquid per lens. Using your fingers, rub it over the whole frame and on both sides of the lenses. Make care to clean the areas that come into contact with your skin the most, such as the temples and nose pads.
You may use a glasses cleaning solution in place of dishwashing liquid if you do not have any. Just be careful not to use too much and that it is safe for lens coatings.
Wash your glasses once again
To remove the soap, hold the glasses under running water.
Use a lint-free towel or clean microfiber cloth to dry your spectacles
These clothes are great since they remove dust and lint without leaving any residue, which is a major plus in the long run.
Dry your glasses gently and then examine them under a light to see if there are any smudges or remnants of debris. If they seem clean, you are free to reapply them.
How to Clean Glasses Properly
If you want very spotless lenses and frames, use these extra measures after following the ones above:
- Before you rinse, use a cotton swab to remove any dirt from the tiny crevices of your frame, such as the region where the frame attaches to the lenses or the hinges.
- Be very cautious while cleaning the nose pads of your glasses since they collect much more bacteria and viruses from your skin. To get very dirty, you may use a reusable wet towel dampened with rubbing alcohol; however, you should only clean the pads and not the frame as a whole.
- Get the microfiber cloths washed often. On one hand, they collect dust, while on the other, unclean ones may disperse it.
- Never rub or wipe your glasses without first rinsing them with water. Unfortunately, instead of eliminating dirt, cleaning dry glasses might actually scrape and spread it.
- To keep your glasses clean and free of smudges and debris, give them a quick wipe-down daily and a more thorough cleaning once a week.
